Akashenda is a fiery hot-pepper condiment from Fresh Spices Limited in Uganda — a chili extract pressed from fresh, ripe Ugandan hot peppers such as habanero in oil. Like Rwanda's Akabanga, it is very concentrated: add a few drops to beans, grilled meat and fish, chips, eggs, soup, matoke or greens rather than pouring it on. Start small and build up the heat to taste. Shake before use; keep the cap closed. See bottle for net volume.

M'Lundo loose face powder is an oil-control makeup setting powder with a natural, matte finish, produced under the M'Lundo cosmetics label. It is built on standard makeup-base ingredients — mica, silica, talc and dimethicone — that absorb facial oils and help lock foundation in place through the day. Dip a fluffy brush or puff into the loose powder, tap off the excess, and press or sweep it over foundation, concentrating on the T-zone. Reseal after use. For external use only; avoid inhaling the loose powder and keep away from the eyes.

Akanozo Ifu y'Amamera is a 1 kg package of malted sorghum flour from Rwanda, produced by SINA Gérard / Entreprise Urwibutso. Known in French as farine de sorgho malté, this flour can be used to prepare traditional sorghum porridge and other sorghum-based recipes. It is a traditional Rwandan flour suitable for everyday family meals.

The agaseke is Rwanda's iconic lidded "peace basket", handwoven in a tight coil from sisal and sweetgrass and finished with a conical lid. Traditionally given at weddings and to welcome guests as a symbol of unity and generosity, it also works beautifully as decor or for storing small items. Each basket is made by hand, so the pattern, colours and exact size vary slightly. Keep away from prolonged damp; dust with a soft brush.

Miss Beauty face and body cream — a moisturiser marketed for a smooth, even-looking complexion. Apply a small amount to clean skin daily. For external use only; patch-test before first use, keep away from the eyes, stop use if irritation occurs, and use sun protection during the day. See pack for net weight.

Kuhnoer kids' high-top basketball sneakers — a sporty design for court play or casual streetwear. The tri-colour block upper pairs a white synthetic-leather base with black trim and bright red accents, with the curved red "KUHNOER" logo on the ankle sidewall. A mid-to-high collar lined with padded black fabric supports the ankle, a mesh window near the laces adds ventilation, and classic cross-over laces through reinforced eyelets give a locked-in fit. Colour as pictured.

Unrefined red palm oil, 2 lb. Semi-solid when cool and clear when warm, with the deep colour and earthy flavour that West and Central African cooking depends on. Use it for soups and stews, jollof rice, beans, yam and plantain, and for frying. Scoop out what you need and keep the rest sealed away from heat and light.

Concentrated tomato paste for building the base of stews, jollof rice, pilau, pasta sauces and soups. Fry a spoonful with onion, garlic and pepper until the raw edge cooks off and the colour deepens, then continue with your recipe. A store-cupboard essential that adds body, colour and a savoury tomato depth. See pack for net weight; refrigerate after opening.

All-purpose wheat flour — ifu y'ingano — a kitchen essential for East African home cooking and baking. Use it for soft chapati and layered chapati, mandazi and half-cake, bread and buns, cakes and biscuits, and for thickening stews and gravies. Sift before use for the lightest results. See pack for net weight; store sealed in a cool, dry place and use within its best-before date.

Sorghum flour — ifu y'uburo — for traditional porridge, uji and fermented drinks such as obushera and amahewu. It has a mild, earthy flavour and is naturally gluten-free, with useful fibre and iron. Whisk into water and simmer, stirring, into a smooth porridge, then sweeten and add milk to taste; or leave to ferment lightly for a tangy drink. Blends well with millet and maize flour. See pack for net weight and keep sealed in a cool, dry place.

Fine cassava flour from Kinazi Cassava Plant (KCP) in Rwanda, the country's leading cassava miller. It is wet-milled from freshly harvested tubers grown by smallholder farmers in the Land of a Thousand Hills, giving a very light, clean flour that is certified gluten-free by the Rwanda Standards Board. Stir gradually into boiling water and work until firm to make ubugali, the everyday accompaniment to isombe, beans, meat and fish. Also great for fufu, porridge and gluten-free baking. See pack for net weight.

Royco Mchuzi Mix, made by Unilever in Kenya, is East Africa's best-known seasoning powder for stews and sauces. It blends corn starch, salt, sugar and a beef-style flavour with coriander, turmeric, ginger, garlic, cumin and cinnamon, so a spoonful adds savoury depth, a warm colour and a fuller aroma. Stir it into beef, chicken or fish stew, sukuma wiki and other greens, rice, potatoes and arrowroot. Small pack; reduce added salt to suit. See pack for net weight.

Pate Jaune yellow maize flour in a wholesale 50 lb sack (umufuka). Milled from yellow corn, which carries more natural colour and beta-carotene than white maize, it cooks into a warm-toned ugali, posho, nsima or bugali to serve with greens, beans, meat and fish stews, and also makes a rich yellow maize porridge for breakfast. Add to boiling water and stir firmly until thick and smooth, then let it steam a few minutes. Naturally gluten-free. Bulk size for large families, caterers and resellers; store the sack sealed in a cool, dry place away from moisture and pests.

Pawpaw (papaya) ointment in a small, pocket-sized tube — a multipurpose balm for dry lips, rough patches, cuticles and minor chafing. Perfect for a handbag, gym bag or travel wash bag. Dab on as needed. For external use; see tube for net weight.

De Rica double-concentrated tomato paste in a small tin — the right amount for a single pot of jollof rice, stew or sauce. Made in Nigeria from 100% Roma-style tomatoes with only citric acid added and no preservatives. Rich, thick and deeply flavoured; fry with onion and pepper to build the base of almost any West African dish. Refrigerate any leftover paste in a covered container.

Roasted soya bean flour in a 2 kg pack — an affordable, high-protein addition to the family diet. Stir a few spoonfuls into maize, millet or sorghum porridge to raise its protein content, cook it into a soya uji on its own, or use it in baking for softer, more nutritious bread and mandazi. Mild, nutty flavour; naturally gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Reseal and store in a cool, dry place.

A single sleeve of Parle-G original glucose biscuits — light, crisp and lightly sweet, perfect with a cup of tea or chai. A grab-and-go size for one, and a low-cost everyday snack for children. See pack for net weight.

De Rica is a premium Nigerian double-concentrated tomato paste made from 100% Roma-style tomatoes with only citric acid added — no preservatives, no artificial colour. Thick, deep red and intensely tomatoey, it is the base for jollof rice, obe ata, buka stew, pasta sauce and soups: fry a few spoonfuls with onion and pepper to start the dish. Large tin. Once opened, transfer any unused paste to a covered container and refrigerate.

The deep, flat-bottomed bowl lets you portion evenly and spread sauces and toppings, while the short handle gives a secure grip and ends in a hanging hole for storage. Made from durable, break-resistant food-safe plastic — lightweight and easy to wash. Please confirm the exact capacity, material and colour shade with the store.

A blue melamine kitchen serving spoon shaped for dishing up staples — the wide, shallow, teardrop bowl scoops cooked ubugali, rice, matoke, grains, pasta and salad without crushing or squashing them. The short handle has a twisted, textured grip and a hanging hole for storage. Made from durable, food-safe melamine: lightweight, shatter-resistant and dishwasher-safe, and it will not scratch non-stick pots. Please confirm the exact length and colour shade with the store.
